Biophilia was created using a Diverse group of mediums such as fiber, ceramics, papier mache, and paint. I enjoy highlighting the connection that humans have with the natural world, Biophilia emphasizes the bug connection. I was inspired by how humans tend to react to certain creatures in the world. I began to ask the question, why do we find love for certain creatures but hate and disgust for others? I researched into the meaning behind certain bugs and their historical context since bugs are often looked down upon for being creepy. I applied bugs into objects that are viewed as fragile and beautiful to show that bugs can also be viewed as that too. I was inspired by Jan van Kessel. His artwork consists of watercolor paintings which is something that I knew I wanted to do for my exhibit. Kessel can portray textures and colors for bugs and represent them in a delicate way. my focus was to highlight how the untraditional beauty of bugs can connect with humans.
