BIOGRAPHY

Mattilyn Grace Nathan was born and raised in West Fargo, North Dakota. Mattilyn is currently attending Valley City State University to complete her bachelor’s degree in art education. Prior to VCSU Mattilyn took a few art classes in high school but got her passion when she took classes at VCSU. Mattilyn has always been open to work with different types of mediums, but she fell in love with ceramics and sculpture.

Mattilyn’s processes when she creates are that she will look in to animals or creatures that are seen as undesired by the majority. She then figures out how she can highlight the beauty of the animal that she chose. She believes that every animal and creature deserve a chance in the spotlight to show they belong here. Mattilyn has always been attracted to the funky world around her and she shows that in her Senior Capstone Exhibit, Biophilia.

Mattilyn will be student teaching back in West Fargo next semester then graduating after. She hopes to move to Maine soon after and find a middle school teaching position. Mattilyn wants to venture out to find more inspiration for her artwork while also inspiring her students.
